On this date (46 years ago) – August 4, 1964 – 3 Civil Rights Workers who were missing since June 21st were found dead in Philadelphia, Mississippi. They were lynched, one black man and two white men who went south to fight for freedom of all black people in Mississippi.
James Chaney, a 21-year-old black man from Meridian, Mississippi; Andrew Goodman, a 20-year-old white Jewish anthropology student from New York; and Michael Schwerner, a 24-year-old white Jewish CORE organizer and former social worker also from New York.
Let us not forget the legacy of racial pain and strife in our country as we (in 2010) still fight against injustice for all Americans.
